Resin Ivory™ Smoking Pipe Slab Material

Dave Warther's Resin-Ivory™ imitation ivory is the highest quality imitation ivory we have seen, worked or handled - ever. Arvorin and other alternative ivories are made as a spun polyester but Resin Ivory™ is a resin based material that has greater strength and beauty.

We have Resin-Ivory™ R grade (regular) slab stock for pipe makers and we have Resin-Ivory+S™ S Grade slabs as well. The R grade Resin-Ivory™ has grain that has a striped and pretty design in it. The Resin-Ivory+S™ S grade has a quarter-sawn ivory grain showing throughout the slab stock. This material looks just like real ivory. It floureses purple under a black light so customs can discern it from real ivory. In the photo, the right most slab is R grade and the left most slab is S grade.

This material works just like real ivory with conventional tools and takes a high polish by buffing with white jewelers rouge on cloth or felt wheels/pads. One needs only sand with 400 grit wet/dry paper and then take it to a buffing wheel. Glues to wood with white glue and to other materials with super glue or epoxy. This material is also the best imitation ivory we have scrimshawed. There is no squishiness when scriming and there is no bleeding of the ink into unwanted areas as seen on other imitation ivories. It works like ivory, polishes like ivory and scrims like ivory!

We cut the slabs from bar stock so the slabs have a cut surface on both sides. This material is ideal for inlay stock but should not be purchased for knife handles or similar applications where very consistant thickness and a smooth surface is needed.
