Awabi and Paua abalone inlay "Feathers". These are slabs of thin inlay stock. These are natural solid shell plates - not laminated shell stock. From this stock artisans can make slides and the Paua feathers are thick enough to make eyes as well.
The Awabi feathers are .7mm+ thick (.028- .029") by 30mm wide (1.15"+) by a length of 100 to 130 mm (3.9" to 5"). These do not lay flat but have a gentle curve to them.
The Paua abalone feathers are 1.6mm thick (.062" = 1/16") by 17 to 20mm wide (5/8" to 3/4"+) by a length of 85mm to 100 mm (3.3" to 3.9"). These lay flat.

Awabi feathers are .7mm+ thick (.028- .029") by 30mm wide (1.15"+) by a length of 100 to 130 mm (3.9" to 5"). These slabs have a slight curve and do not lay flat. They can be cut to make violin and cello slides but with the curve probably not bass slides. Note the thickness at .028" (.7+mm). These can be cut into slide size and glued to the ebony slide liner.
