Black Goatskin Violin Bow Leather

A versatile fine bookbinding leather with an embossed small, uniform pin morocco grain that has long been the goatskin of choice among violin bow makers.

Goatskin is by far the most popular thumb leather in violin bow making. This fine material is durable and it is also very firm and easy to work.

This is not typical goat leather. This is imported from England where we have sourced the highest quality goat skin for artistic applications.This is top grade leather as seen on the interiors of the finest European automobiles, fine book binding, the finest gloves and in artistic work of many kinds.

Our leather has been tanned, cured and mill pressed to a specific thickness of .8 to .9 mm plus or minus .1 mm. The pebbled Moroccan texture has a luxurious look and feel and the texture aids in seam blending. This material has been embossed with the design that has become known as Morocco or Morrocan - the small uniform pin pebbled texture.

Available in black and in cognac brown and in four choices of sizes. We offer a small square measuring 1.5 inches by 1.5 inches for folks just needing to re-leather a bow, a 50 gram bag of oddly shaped but highly useable cuts (this size not always available/quickly sells out), a 144 Square inch cut, and whole goatskins.

The most purchased size is the middle size where we have cut 144 square inches of material. Most of these cuts measure 4 or 5 inches in width and 30 to 36 inches in length. Rolled for convenience of handling.The whole skins are actual whole skins with the whole hide shape consisting of 8 to 9 square feet of material.
