These horn slabs are sanded smooth one side and cut with precision to be slightly oversize of 3/32" thick so that you do not have to labor greatly to attain the final thickness for your application. Martin guitars take this 3/32" thick saddle. It will be cut to be thick enough for you to reduce it to the needed thickness without a lot of work. These are cut in our Dover, Ohio shop with precision.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Horn saddle blanks are likely to arrive slightly warped. This is normal and usual as it is the nature of horn material when cut to thin sizes. The saddles are to be brought to shape while the artisan deals with this warping feature. The material is extremely strong and very flexible, and one simply cups the part while doing the final sanding to thickness. This is not difficult. The slightly warped saddle is then snapped into place in the bridge slot. We mention this so you are not shocked when you receive the saddle and find that it is slightly warped.
